The lily flower is often associated with the Mythical story of Zeus and Hera. According to the myth that was told many time, Zeus wanted his son Hercules to drink the milk of his beloved wife, Hera. However, Hercules was born of another woman. Therefore, Hera disagreed strongly. As Zeus insisted for it to happen, he had was brought his sonHercules to Hera while she was unconsciously sleeping to consume her milk, but she awoke and pushed him away angrily. The drops of milk that spilled onto the ground was said to have grew into lilies.

The lily flower is a part of the Lilium flower family and is known as “true lilies”. Though many other flowers has the word "lily" in their name, they are not part of this genus and therefore are not categorized as true lilies.
