The Gerbera flower is atype of daisy that belongs to the genus Asteraceae and is a non-fragrant flower that originates in Africa! - In the year 1727, the plant was discovered in Africa by Mr. Gronovius (a botanist from Leiden) who decided to name the Gerbera flower after his colleague, a German botanist and medical doctor, Traugott Gerber.

In 1827, the flower was introduced to the United Kingdom. There the production was further refined and cultivated. While in 1950, the Netherlands became the largest country in the field of development for the Gerbera flowers. Moving forward to the year1975, the Gerbera daisy became a very popular cut flower and highly exported due to high demand.

Gerbera daisies can go from eight to 24 inches tall while the flowers grow go from two to five inches across. It is possible to grow the Gerbera flower both indoors and outdoors. 
In the present day,  are the beautiful Gerberas are cultivated all over the world and well known for their vibrant colors. Most gerbera daisies that you come across today are most likely a hybrid of Gerbera viridifolia and Gerbera jamesonii .
